Chakras and Tarot Cards

From my Zine, Crystal Magick

Chakras. You’ve heard of ’em, right? If not, here’s the quick of it: They’re spinning wheels of light in your energetic body. There are seven basic chakras, each correlating with different aspects of Self and life. Check out the above ‘lil picture I drew to see their deal.

Each chakra will spin brighter and happier when issues relating to it are clear. For example, your red, root chakra relates to survival and money, and it’s located at the base of your spine. If you’re having concerns with those things, the chakra may appear, in meditation, cloudy and dim.

So, like tarot, chakras are another way to see if your Self is in alignment with its true, authentic spirit. Folks who work with their chakras spend time meditating, listening to, and clearing their chakras on a regular basis. If you want to try this, I recommend sitting as you would in meditation, and visualizing each chakra and its color, one at a time. As you do this, see its light and color glowing brighter and any residue attached to it, dissipate. Take time to listen to what might be bothering it, too.

Using Tarot cards to read your Chakras

There are various tarot spreads that use the chakra concept. These tarot spreads help you see what blockages are happening in those chakras/life areas. Here is an exercise I developed. You can see my approach to the exercise in the photo below.

  1. Choose one tarot card that describes each of the chakras and what they mean to you. I chose Major Arcana cards, but any cards in your deck will do. You can rely on the images in your tarot cards to help you choose which chakra you connect it to. You can also think of the traditional card meaning to connect it to the appropriate chakra.
  2. Journal about why you chose the cards you did.
  3. How are you blocked? Next, go through your cards and choose the cards that you feel describe any challenges that you may have in those areas. Journal some more and reflect on this!

Here are the tarot cards I chose for each of the chakras:

Chakras and Crystals

Chakras and crystals work great together. This is from my zine crystal magic, which shows the correlation between different crystals and chakras.

For the most part, you can correlate a crystal’s color with its chakra. That makes it easy to get to know what different crystals mean.

And then you can cast crystals with tarot cards, you can look at the crystal’s color and it’s chakra. So, if you look at the casting below, Carnelian, the orange crystal, has fallen close to the Five of Pentacles. Carnelian is connected to confidence, speaking, and expression. It’s a great card for creative people, and especially for actors as it helps you feel secure in front of others.

If we look at the above casting, the Five of Pentacles nearby is connected to ill health, depression, and addiction. So, the correlation between Carnelian and the Five of Wands implies the following:

  • Carnelian is connected to the sacral chakra, which is about pleasure and creativity. The Five of Pentacles can be about limitations and lack. The correlation between Carnelian and the Five of Pentacles suggests that the seeker is not enjoying life or expressing themselves in an authentic way.
  • The seeker’s creativity may also be blocked due to mental illness. Physical illness could also bring limitations.
  • Blocked creativity could also be due to a lack of confidence. Carnelian is a bold stone. So, the seeker here might fear sharing their gifts with the world, as it requires vulnerability and placing themselves front and center in a more extroverted, public way.

I hope that gives you some sense of how crystal casting with tarot cards can work together!
